JFK Airport’s Terminal 4 Introduces Its 2018 Annual Sustainability Report

Back to Newsroom

Terminal 4 is the largest terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, and the only privately-operated terminal in the United States. At nearly two million square feet, Terminal 4 is home to 34 airlines and over 12,000 employees. Operated by JFK International Terminal LLC (JFKIAT), we are proud to be the first air terminal in the United States to be awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance gold-level certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Terminal 4 has been recognized as one of the top performers in sustainability and energy management. We are committed to leading the industry by reducing our carbon footprint and operating a sustainable and healthy facility for our employees and more than 21 million passengers that enter the terminal each year. Operational and maintenance protocols are centered around sustainable principles that include water and energy efficiency, waste management, indoor environment quality and innovation. We have developed goals and strategies to continue to measure, evaluate, and improve our environmental performance. Terminal 4’s comprehensive sustainability program demonstrates our continued commitment to sustainable growth and conservation of our natural resources.

T4 is a work of art. Really! You’ll find our private collection of world-class paintings, sculptures, and mobiles on display throughout the terminal.

Be Travel-Ready: Plan for a Stress-Free Trip to T4!

Due to construction at JFK, the roadways leading to Terminal 4 may be congested. We highly recommend that our guests allow themselves some extra time to reach the terminal and, whenever possible, use public transportation within the subway system through Howard Beach or LIRR at Jamaica, then use AirTrain JFK.

From there, your ride will be 10 or 15 minutes to the terminal.

Taxis and shared rides from T4 will operate from the Remote Ride App & Car Services Lot, accessible via a free shuttle bus in front of the Arrivals Hall running every 1-2 minutes. Please avoid going with anyone you have not pre-arranged a ride with.
